The Purr-fect Number of Cat Litter Boxes
If you own a cat, one of the most important items to buy is a litter box. But how many litter boxes do you need? Do you need one per cat or can you get away with just one? Read on to learn all about the perfect number of litter boxes for your feline friend!
The number of cats in your home will determine how many litter boxes you need. As a general rule, it is recommended to have one litter box per cat plus one extra. For example, if you have two cats, then three litter boxes would be ideal. This allows each cat their own spot where they feel safe and secure when they go to use the bathroom. Additionally, having multiple litter boxes means that if one becomes dirty or unusable for any reason, there are still others available for your cats to use.
You should also consider the size of your home when deciding how many litter boxes you will need. If space is limited and the only option is to keep the litter boxes in a single room or area, it may be best to limit the number to avoid overcrowding. On the other hand, if your home has multiple levels and rooms spread out across them, then getting an extra box per level may be necessary. If possible, it is also helpful to place at least one box on each level so that no matter where your cats are in your home they always have easy access to their loo!
Finally, it is important to choose an appropriate size for each box as well. If your cats are small and/or young kittens then getting smaller boxes can work perfectly fine while larger cats will require larger boxes that offer plenty of room for them to move around comfortably inside. Additionally, if there are any senior cats in your home who may be dealing with arthritis or other mobility issues then large boxes with low sides may be better suited for them so that they don’t have trouble getting in and out easily.
Knowing how many cat litter boxes you need depends on several factors such as the size of your home and the number of cats living with you. A good rule of thumb is one box per cat plus an extra for convenience's sake! It’s also important to note that different sizes of boxes might suit different needs depending on whether or not there are senior cats present who may require more space or lower sides due to mobility issues. Ultimately having enough litter boxes (and making sure they’re kept clean) helps ensure that all of your furry friends feel comfortable going potty wherever they please!
