How to Reduce Cat Shedding

It’s inevitable - cats shed. But that doesn’t mean you can’t take steps to reduce the amount of cat hair in your home. Here are a few simple tips to help keep your cat from shedding so much.

How to Reduce Cat Shedding

1: Regular Grooming

Regular grooming is an important part of reducing shedding in cats. Brush your cat regularly with a soft brush or comb, at least once a week or more often if your cat has long fur. This helps remove any loose fur, as well as dead skin cells, dust and dirt that may be lurking in your cat’s coat. Regular grooming also helps stimulate natural oils in the coat, which can further reduce the amount of shedding.

2: Healthy Diet

A healthy diet is key to helping reduce shedding in cats. A balanced diet with plenty of lean proteins, fatty acids and vitamins will keep your cat's coat healthy and minimize shedding. Make sure you choose a good quality food that is specifically formulated for cats and avoid low-quality fillers like grains and corn meal which can cause extra shedding.

3: Stay Hydrated

Make sure your cat always has access to fresh water throughout the day, as dehydration can lead to excessive shedding. Try adding some wet food into your cat’s diet too – this will help them stay hydrated while also providing additional nutrients they need for a healthy coat. A few drops of fish oil on their food each day will help keep their coat looking shiny and full!

Animal owners know that it's nearly impossible to completely stop their pet from shedding but there are steps you can take to minimize it! Regular grooming, feeding them a healthy diet full of lean proteins, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals along with ensuring they have access to plenty of fresh water throughout the day will go a long way towards keeping your beloved feline friend from leaving behind too much fluff around the house.
